California spoiled everybody, honestly. You grow up here and you don’t even realize how good you’ve got it until you travel somewhere with actual seasons and realize half the year is a write-off.

Venice still pulls the tourists to rail the fence and watch the bowl, but the locals know the real sessions happen early, before the boardwalk fills up with people who’ve never touched a board asking to take your picture. Down in San Diego you’ve got that concrete flow — Washington Street, the ditches, backyard pools that have been poachable since the seventies if you know who to ask.

Northern California’s got its own thing going. SF hills will humble you fast — bombing down Fillmore is a different kind of commitment than anything flat ground offers, and the cracks in that pavement have ended more than a few boards. EMB’s long gone, but the ghost of it still shows up in how people talk about the city, like it’s some lost golden age you missed by a decade.

Then there’s the desert, the drainage ditches out past the suburbs, kids finding banks nobody’s touched since the last rain. That’s the part outsiders never get — California isn’t just palm trees and pool skating. It’s a whole state built out of leftover concrete, and somebody’s always figured out how to ride it.
